Our herd is currently made up of Mustangs from two Herd Management Areas (HMAs) overseen by the Bureau of Land Management. Learn more about each Mustang and where they came from below.

Sand Wash Basin (CO) Herd
-
Bella Donna
2017 Dun Mare “Cossandra”
An equine equivalent to "Pretty Woman" as her name literally translates from Italian. She is an enchanting dun mare with a combination snip, star & stripe face marking. She consistently will follow Flint's lead and is becoming much more curious about human interaction but generally keeps her distance as well.
-
Kenosha
2020 Gray Dapple Mare
Confident, dominant and strongly independent best describes this striking two-tone dapple mare. Without hesitation she accepts hand feeding but not trusting enough to accept human affection. She is impartial toward both Coal and Flint, does not follow their lead and is quite comfortable bossing the rest of the herd around.
-
Rain
2017 Dun Mare “Cream Puff”
A beautiful raindrop shaped snip capitulates the sweet delicate spirit of this remarkable little mare. She is quite smitten with Coal. The reciprocal grooming clearly reveals her place in the herd hierarchy as Coal's favorite. She is extremely curious toward humankind but has only accepted occasion nose contact.
-
Semper
2021 Gray Filly
Semper is the daughter of Spotlight and resembles our current resident Kenosha, her full sister. Semper's name was inspired from the US Marine Corps motto "semper fidelis" that means "always faithful". Her personality truly measures up to her name. She actively pursues human affection, loves scratches and will give ceremonial hugs by placing her chin on your shoulder. It's a very sweet gesture of face hugging and is delivered respectfully like a loyal greeting salute.
-
Poppy
2021 Gray Mare
Poppy, one of three little fillies, is another jumper. She thrives on human touching and loves to be hugged, scratched and groomed. She often exhibits jealous behaviors for human attention. She is very similar in stature and disposition of the amazingly affectionate Quincy.
-
Spotlight
2017 White Gray Mare
Spotlight "spotlights" a beautiful blonde mane with subtle gray body accents against a shimmering white undercoat. She is the mother of both Semper and current resident Kenosha. Spotlight keeps a close proximity to Semper and only casually interacts with Kenosha who has been extremely independent and bossy. She has a calm disposition and is just beginning to be comfortable with human touch. Semper's acceptance for human affection is influencing her mother's progress.
-
Iris
2021 Bay Filly
Formerly apprehensive and shy, this little filly made a remarkably rapid transition. She accepts human touch especially loving both scratching and brushing. While she seeks human interaction, she is congenial and never overbearing or jealous. A real sweetheart and always eager to greet anyone who approaches.
-
Coal
2010 Black Gelding
Herd hierarchy is no mystery for this dominant and protective mustang. He exhibits a zeal to control the herd and has been sharing this authority with his brother Flint. Coal is majestic and notably acts as a kind-hearted caretaker.
-
Mirage
2009 Sorrel Mare
Mirage is the mother of Freya, sired by Coal, the co-leading Mustang of our ever-expanding Sand Wash Basin herd. The reunion event was quite subdued as four new ladies took some time to settle in. After several weeks of partial disjuncture, Mirage found her place among the herd with assured harmony. She demonstrates little to no interest towards either Coal or his new favorite mare Rain (Cream Puff). Mirage is calm and confident but still very reserved around humans.
-
Little Debbie
2019 Strawberry Roan Mare
This little mustang is both feisty and energetic, a real jumper. For quite a while she had been hypersensitive toward personal touch and barely accepted hand feeding. Her trust in human interaction has greatly progressed. She willingly seeks and will accept facial touch but has yet to discover the joys of human scratches and brushing.
-
Legacy
2013 Pinto Gelding
This attractive pinto elegantly parades her fancy dreadlocks with a flair of royalty. Her transitional mane is both enchanting and noble. She is self-sufficient while respecting the co-leadership of both Coal and Flint. Her curiosity toward human interaction is progressing but prefers to keep her distance.
-
Flint
2015 Brown Gelding
Meet Coal's half-brother with a similar irregular star face marking and drive to control the herd. The brothers cordially sorted out what is mine, yours and ours. An atypical co-leadership coalition is inherent perhaps due to best of kin.

Red Desert Complex (WY)Herd
-
Pisco
2011 Buckskin Gelding
Pisco, meaning "Spirit" in Peru. Inspired from the famous animated buckskin he is easy to distinguish. Pisco is very curios, unafraid of new experiences and notably accepted hand feeding.
-
Marley "Bob"
2006 Blue Roan Gelding
Don't worry about a thing. Marley's long dreadlocks and easygoing personality is certainly gonna be all right. He was among the first three mustangs to accept hand fed hay.
-
Spartan
2009 Bay Roan Pinto Gelding
Courage and valor are amply exhibited for this bravehearted mustang. He is often first to traverse a new gate or trek across unfamiliar terrain. Generally, others are too leery to follow.
-
Caspian
2000 White Gelding
As senior member of the band this mustang is no slacker when it comes to full gallop. He often leads the bolt and is lightning fast. He also presents a nimble trot which is rare for a wild horse.
-
Merlin
2006 Black Gelding
Kind-hearted and first to be hand fed assures this mustang will be more than a diamond in the rough. Advertising his classic diamond-shaped star & stripe face marking, he is undeniably a real gem.
-
Ghost
2003 Dapple Gray Gelding
Ghoulish in aspect, this mustang displays a uniquely marked bald face that is akin to a mystic pirate skull. Coupled with a magnificent dapple-gray, this mustang is respectably outstanding in a field. He is the bachelor boss.
-
Orion
2009 Bay Roan Pinto Gelding
Cautious and circumspect fittingly characterizes this alluringly colored mustang. The timidness of his personality is abundantly offset by his tricolored red, black and roan distinctive features.
-
Chino
2006 Gray Grullo Gelding
Inspired from an artistically crafted Cappuccino, this strong and stout mustang heralds plenty of energy to keep pace with a fast gallop. No caffeine required. Chino, not the fastest, but he is seldom left behind.
-
Rocky
2019 Paint Gelding
Rocky, our newest resident, is unique because he previously received tip training and was being led with a halter. His personality was too unpredictable for the program and is now enjoying a restored sense of freedom. He is much younger and gentler than the other Wyoming bachelors so Rocky has instead joined with the Sand Wash Basin herd. His personality was a better fit and is getting along exceptionally well.
-
Bramble
2011 Brown Grullo Gelding
Among the youngest of the Wyoming mustangs, this good-looking mustang totes a dapper combination star, stripe & snip marking. His dark chocolate brown base makes this grullo uncommonly special. He is shy and impartial to humankind.
